About the Author
Ken Fleming has been an enthusiastic and passionate Bible teacher for more than fifty years. His service for Christ has led him to many parts of the globe, including South Africa, where he spent twenty-five years as a missionary among the Zulu people. From 1977 through 2002, Ken taught in the Bible and Missions programs at Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque, Iowa. Today he continues proclaiming the gospel and strengthening the church body through writing and preaching ministries.

A Different Viewpoint

As a former student of Ken Fleming's, I was required to read this book in one of his classes. I had read "Through the Gates of Splendor" by Elizabeth Elliot, and so figured that it would not be of much interest to me. However, when I did read it, I was fascinated by the different viewpoint that Mr. Fleming takes.
Ken writes from the perspective of a brother who had a close relationship with Pete, even though (at the time of Pete's martyrdom) they were on complete opposite sides of the Earth (Ken was working with the Zulu at the time). He discusses Pete's personality, his working relationship with God and others and his reasonings about giving up a potential career to be a missionary who would have no visible means of support (he did not even have pledges, nor did he request money from others.) He makes great use of Pete's diary and letters to others to develop his memoir.
As a professor, Mr. Fleming has a sharp wit and a strong ability to use language to communicate; this ability comes out in his book. A good read!

A Victorious Trophy of God's Grace!

Page after page of these entries in Peter Fleming's journal give a deep insight into what a man after God's own heart looks like. The process of Pete's spiritual maturity seen in the variety of experiences that each day would bring served to nurture a reflection of God's love through him that was extended toward those whom he would win for Christ. All of these episodes are trophies of God's grace and standards of true discipleship that raise the bar of faith far above the status quo of mere Christian duty. It was the beauty of Christ that drove and sustained him, with a persistence that flowed from the fountainhead of worship. In all of this, the reader is led to see a quality of living that is not out of reach for any heart that is surrendered to the Lord Jesus Christ, constrained by His love and held by His hand to fulfill the purpose of His calling in each of us. Thank you, Ken Fleming, for these tender, transparent lessons afforded by your loving display of your brother Pete's faith in practice. To God alone be the glory!
