The Remarkable Story told well

This is an excellent account of the Wright Brothers and family with plenty of detail to please the early aviation enthusiast. The extent of detail in this book (35 chapters) including coverage of Bishop Wright's ministry within the United Brethren Church of Christ, the Smithsonian controversy involving the Langley aerodrome, details of Katharine's romance with Harry Haskell, and of course all the details of the Wright's inventing process and adventures, reminds me of Tom Crouch's The Bishop's Boys. If you enjoyed The Bishop's Boys, you will treasure this book.

Great Book

This is a great book on the Wright Brothers. It is very detailed and well written. It takes you from their births to deaths and even discusses their father and siblings. If you want a comprehensive book on the birth of flight, this is it. It is a long book, 500+ pages but reads fast like a novel. The only negatives are, it needs more pictures and the writter is from New Zealand (which means he uses some funny words). This is a GREAT BOOK.

Great Read!

Great read! The book introduces some great characters and, in the process, shows the irony that those same home-schooled geneticists/ growers who played such an important role in making cannabis more potent now find themselves at the mercy of a legal markets and dispensaries whose product owes so much to them. I found myself sympathizing with the growers far more than I ever thought I could.

An Interesting Piece on Pot

The change in the nature of marijuana, and the marijuana business is a great tale of what entrepreneurs can do if government would only get out of the way. In my 50 years of pot smoking, the product has improved dramatically, the price has declined, and the availability and acceptance of the product has increased. I find it almost unbelievable that this has occurred while the government has been engaged in a self-proclaimed war on drugs, but then if the government was good at stopping people from doing what they want to do, we would have a very different world.

The author does a great job of describing and humanizing the parallel economy, and society, that has evolved along with the product. As the Dead say: Oh what a long strange trip it has been, and this book is a good guide to how that trip has occurred.

Whether or not you are not a pothead...

... this book is a fascinating read. Every election cycle we get a little closer to having marijuana legalized on a national level and I want to know what we're in for. Pot is not my thing, but I do want to be an informed voter. After reading this book I feel like I have been given a grounding in a world that I knew nothing about. It's all here: the breeding, the growing, the selling, the politics. Changed the way I think about the whole subject, and I had fun reading it.

About the Author
Marie J. Morreale, OTR/L, CHT is an adjunct faculty member at Rockland Community College, State University of New York. She has been teaching students in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program there since 1998. Marie’s courses include Professional Issues and Documentation, OT Skills, Geriatric Principles, and Advanced OT Skills. Early in her teaching career, she taught several other courses in the OTA Program such as Therapeutic Activities and Advanced Therapeutic Activities. Besides making significant contributions to curriculum development, Marie also served as interim coordinator of the OTA Program.

Marie graduated summa cum laude from Quinnipiac College in Hamden, CT (now Quinnipiac University) with a BS in occupational therapy. She has worked in a variety of OT practice settings including inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, long-term care, adult day care, home health, cognitive rehabilitation, and hand therapy. Marie has been a Certified Hand Therapist since 1993 and also served several years on a home health Professional Advisory Committee, consulting on quality assurance issues. In addition to co-writing the prior edition of this book, Marie wrote a chapter on documentation for The Occupational Therapy Manager, 5th Edition and has published several OT articles. She is also the author of two online continuing education courses. Marie was selected for Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and, when not teaching, is active in her church community and enjoys anything travel-related.

Sherry Borcherding, MA, OTR/L recently retired from the faculty of University of Missouri-Columbia, where she taught for 15 years. During the time she was on the faculty, she taught disability awareness; complementary therapies; clinical ethics; frames of reference; psychopathology; loss and disability; long-term care; wellness; and a three-semester fieldwork sequence designed to develop critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and documentation skills. Two of her courses were designated as campus writing courses, and one was credentialed for computer and information proficiency. As a part of the fieldwork and documentation courses, she filmed simulated occupational therapy interventions for student use in class. Three of these “movies” are available on www.efacultylounge.com with this edition of the book.

Sherry graduated with honors from Texas Woman’s University, Denton, TX with a BS in occupational therapy, and went on to complete her master’s in special education with special faculty commendation at George Peabody College, Nashville, TN. Following her staff positions in rehabilitation, home health, and pediatrics, she assumed a number of management roles, including Chief Occupational Therapist at East Texas Treatment Center, Kilgore, TX, and at Mid-Missouri Mental Health Center, Columbia, MO, as well as Director of Rehabilitation Services at Transitional Housing Agency, Columbia, MO. She also planned, designed, and directed occupational therapy programs at Capitol Regional Medical Center, Jefferson City, MO, and at Charter Behavioral Health Center, Columbia, MO.

Sherry is a lifelong learner. Since her retirement, she has further expanded her private practice devoted to complementary and alternative therapies. She is certified in craniosacral therapy at the techniques level through Upledger Institute, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and is attuned as a Reiki master. She volunteers with the Community Emergency Response Team affiliated with the fire department, and with the Medical Reserve Corps affiliated with the public health department. For leisure, Sherry enjoys music, dance, and all kinds of three-dimensional art. Her pottery has appeared in several local shows over the past few years.

This is a great book for those who may need help with documentation. This book gives you the terminology that insurance companies need to see in your documentation. It has a lot of practice spaces with the answers in the back of the book. This is a must get book for students!

About the Author

Dr. Tarjei Kristiansen is Head of Power Market Analysis at SN Power Brazil. Prior to joining SN Power he was a Vice President with JP Morgan in London and responsible for German and Nordic power market analysis. Dr. Kristiansen has also worked for the trading company RBS Sempra Commodities, the utility Statkraft and KEMA Consulting in its markets and regulation team. Dr. Kristiansen holds an MSc in Physics from the University of Oslo and a PhD in Electrical Power Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He completed the Fellows Program at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. His PhD focused on risk management associated with transmission congestion including financial transmission rights. He frequently publishes papers on European electricity markets, modeling and financial transmission rights in the US. When he is not analysing and modelling electricity markets, he spends time jogging or reading finance. He can be reached at Tarjei_Kristiansen_2003@alumni.ksg.harvard.edu.

Juan Rosellón is tenured Professor at the Department of Economics of the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) in Mexico City, and Senior Researcher at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW-Berlin). He has been Visiting Professor at the Technische Universität Berlin (2010-2011), the Technische Universität Dresden (2007-2010), and the Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University (2002-2005). Professor Rosellón has published extensively on incentive mechanisms to regulate restructured electricity and natural gas markets, including price-cap methodologies to promote infrastructure investment and addressing strategic behavior by participants with market power. He is member of the Editorial Board of Economics of Energy & Environmental Policy, and is the Editor of Economía Mexicana, Nueva Época. Professor Rosellón has been awarded with a Marie-Curie Fellowship from the European Union (2012), the 4th Reimut Jochimsen Prize by the Deutsche Bundesbank (2009), a Georg Forster Fellowship by the Humboldt Foundation (2008), and a Repsol-YPF-Harvard-Kennedy-School Fellowship (2003). Powerful account of devastated Berlin

War's Last Dance not only covers the romantic story behind the main character, Isabel, it also chronicles the devastation left behind in Berlin after the end of the Second World War. Many people don't stop and think about what life was like in Germany after 1945, but the destruction was far from over by the war's end. Julia Underwood powerfully describes the total devastation in Berlin - Isabel is shocked by the utter ruin of the city - mountains of rubble, thousands of displaced refugees, starving and dying of diseases.
War's Last Dance narrates an important point in history and is well worth reading if you are interested in the after-effects of the Second World War.

A breathtaking story, gloriously descriptive, addictive from start to finish!

"War's Last Dance" is the captivating debut novel by the highly talented Julia Underwood. Her beautifully descriptive prose cleverly combines the simplicity of a charming love story with the complexity of War, corruption, politics, kidnap, relationships, poverty and despair. The author manages to engage the reader from start to finish, such that one is transported both in time and space to watch events unfold first-hand. The book is tremendously well-researched, Underwood's vivid descriptions and exquisite detail make this novel both captivating and fascinating.

The story is set in the 1940s, in post-war Berlin. Underwood evolves her characters superbly, causing the reader to immediately empathise with Isabel, the protagonist, who is forced to leave her East-end life behind her. She travels with her young daughter from London to Berlin, to join her military husband who has been posted there as part of the Allied Control Commission to govern the defeated Germans. Underwood's moving narrative takes the reader on a journey through the abject poverty and suffering of the German people, whose city has been destroyed by war, intertwined with the lives of the Allied forces who work there, struggling on war rations in a faraway place. Crime and corruption are inevitable, and Underwood cleverly entangles this within the story. Isabel's world is changed irrevocably by war, and when catastrophe strikes, she is forced to make some brave decisions and take charge of the situation, something that is very difficult for a woman to do in what is very much a Man's World.
I will definitely purchase a Hardback copy of this book when a print version becomes available - it's definitely a keeper!

This is an interesting and intimate tour of post-war Germany; the black market runs rampant, Russians, Germans, British and Americans don't trust one another... for good reason. Very well done!

Most readable history book I've encountered

An outstanding book. Well researched, concise and to the point, and with no exaggeration, it's quite possibly the most readable history book every written. Each chapter is no more than 7 pages long and gives all the highlights of the great figures and events that are associated with Kansas...anyone from Dwight Eisenhower, Amelia Earhart, school desegregation, and as recent as the Greensburg tornado. Incredibly interesting.

Nice intro to Kansas, but...

The book is a nice easy read. However having lived in Kansas my whole life and now teaching Kansas History in middle school, I found this book fairly basic. If you're looking for an in depth history of Kansas, move to another book. If you're looking for a basic introduction to important events and people of Kansas, then this is your book.

A good intro to Kansas

If you are looking to just get your feet wet in the history of Kansas, this book does the job. I recently moved to Kansas, and was looking for a book to get me introduced to some of the state's history. I was pleased with most of the events chosen in this book. It felt much like taking an imaginative, historic tour through Kansas. And that's about as deep as I'm ready to go right now.

My favorite events were how Pizza Hut became established, the bizarre methods of Carrie Nation in "Hatchet Job", and how the aviation industry basically took over Wichita in its peak of prosperity. I thought "The Spaghetti Monster" didn't need any more attention than it already may have gotten. From my perspective, that whole protest was just bloated and disrespectful. But overall, this was a good read.

Soul mates finding their way...

I started this book without realizing that it was the second in a series. It didn't hurt me, but I'm still going to read the first one and if I had known i definitely would have read it first. I could tell I was missing out on important foundations of relationships that had been established previously.
The book starts with Lauren having professed her love to her friend Matthew, but he hadn't reciprocated the way she had hoped he would. Her boyfriend of 10 years, Eric, had finally proposed to her offering her everything she had always wanted but she realized she didn't want it anymore. She figures out that she's in love with Matthew and doesn't want to marry Eric. Matthew rejected her, Eric is upset and hurt since she turned him down, so she's all alone and trying to figure out what to do with her life. This is where the story begins.

She spends five months picking up the pieces and getting on with daily living on the outside, but her feelings for Matthew don't diminish and the pain is always there. She's in a deep depression but doesn't try to contact Matthew because she thinks it will break her even more to be rejected by him yet again.
I don't want to give this story away, but I will say that I was so frustrated with the both of them! Even though we weren't getting Matthew's POV I was still yelling at him in my head. They just needed to talk to one another! Instead of just assuming they knew exactly what the other was thinking and feeling they should have fought harder for what they wanted. They wasted too much time that could have been spent being happy and together by being alone and in despair. They eventually reconnect but I won't spoil how that occurs for you.

During a conversation about their time apart Matthew said, "The heart is an amazing thing...It never lies, though we may not choose to listen. It continues to beat even when it's broken, even when you wish it wouldn't. It's almost as if it's determined to pull you through the darkest hours, as if it knows that better days are ahead." That line perfectly summarizes in the most profound way the desolation they both lived through.

They end with a definite HEA and seeing how perfect they are together makes all the heartbreak worth it. If events hadn't occurred exactly in the way that they did then maybe they wouldn't have been given this second chance at being with 'the One'. Matthew tells Lauren she's always been his One when he says, "From the moment that I laid eyes on you, I knew you were the one. But for the longest time, you weren't mine to have. ...And you slipped through my fingers and that loss nearly killed me." Swoon!! Every time Matthew says something you just can't help but fall for him a little bit more. He's my new book boyfriend, for sure....and I'm hoping he appears in later books of the series. I can't wait to read them all.

Beautifully Written Romance

Shattered by Alicia Renee Kline is a beautifully written love story, at times it’s gut wrenching, at times happiness pours off the pages. It is the second book in the Intoxicated Book Series and picks up right where book 1 left off. Lauren is devastated with how things have turned out, and she heads back to Eric making her final decision. She does return to Fort Wayne, but is it with a ring on her finger or not? READ ON TO FIND OUT….

Fortunately, readers don’t have to wait long to see what Lauren’s decision is. Without revealing too much, how do her decisions impact her relationship with Blake and most importantly, Matthew? The first part of the book is pretty much just about Lauren and how her choice affects her. She goes through a very emotional, devastating time, and my heart really hurt for her at times. I enjoyed seeing Lauren pick herself up and how she matured through the process. She finally started taking care of herself for a change. As things begin to settle down for her and she is reveling in her new life, a new employee begins working at the bank and changes things. This adds a new, suspenseful twist to the story. I was also glad to see the return of secondary characters, and I did get a glimpse into the pasts of Blake and Chris which has me wanting to see more of their story.

This was a great emotional read which pulled at my heartstrings.

Matthew and Lauren’s journey continues in this 2nd book (the 1st is Intoxicated) and as it continues we find that the heart doesn’t always know what is right or wrong but we do find out that our lives do go on and that we take chances in whatever path we so choose to go down. But in the end do our hearts always ring true?

The journey that these two amazing characters take is one that I do say again should be written in the romance history books. The true to life characters of Lauren and Matthew have obstacles that they both need to overcome before finding that their hearts are actually one or are they?

In these pages of this amazing read you will take the journey with me as I did them to find that everyday occurrences are more sacred that the heart does hold dear. Every day is a mystery with Lauren and Matthew but one thing remains the same mystery of the unknown.

Can these two hearts find their way to one another? Can they obtain the love that they truly seek? Can forgiveness of fear of the unknown become the stepping stone to the path of true ever-lasting love?
