Better than expected

I wasn't quite sure what I was going to get and glanced through the ebook to get an idea if the author is new age or more in line with the Church's age-old teachings. I was pleased to see much from St. Ignatius as well as quotes from a book published by Sheed and Ward....a sure sign of truth. I had ordered the ebook being in the midst of discerning a life move and was greatly helped by Kosloski's words.

Good little tool

I do not even recall how I came across this book, it might have been recommended based on other books I had read or bought. But to be honest you cannot beat the price. The ebook is available for a very reasonable rate. In many ways it reminds me of a bible track or 4 Spiritual Laws booklets that were used for evangelization by non-denomination groups when I was at university. It is a very short volume. But in reality has a pretty solid message.

The main focus of the book is to be a guide to help us in growth of discernment during our times of prayer and meditation. The main focus is that we hear four voices when we pray, two are internal and two are external. The internal one's or distractions and or our own wish fulfilment, the external are either Satan trying to lead us astray or the authentic voice of God speaking to us and guiding us. In the introduction the author states: "As always, I suggest taking everything to a trusted spiritual director, who acts as God's instrument and can help you sift out what is true and what is false. I hope this short eBook gives you the clarity you are searching for." And even for someone who has prayed for years there are some good tips in this book worth pursuing. Through the rest of the book Philip gives clear concise teaching, drawing heavily upon saints and church tradition to help us learn how to discern between the four voices. He draws extensively from Saint Ignatius and he has an amazing quote from Father Jacques Philippe.

One of the greatest strengths of the book is the two page appendix, it gives some amazing jumping off points to go deeper on the lessons taught in this book. Of the 22 books recommended I have read a few but after encountering quotes in this book have added a few more of them to my to be read pile. This book was a good enough read at such a great price point that as soon as I finished it I bought another of his and immediately read it also!

Basic but direct and pungent.

I started reading materials /self study St Ignatius last October. Simply put, it save me from me. The guidelines were so viceraly churning and made me to make a u-turn in situations.
This book is a short read and excellent reference when one needs a quick guide to share.

Love This Daily Devotion

Stanley Jones writes this devotion in such an intellectual but simple to understand way of leading you to understand how and why to go God's way which leads to life. I recommend this for people who are searching for truth and need a map to lead them down the path of the Way. I have bought extra books for friends. This is the original manuscript that I recommend people have. He makes a updated version which is not as rich as this one. This book was his master piece and last book he wrote before he went to Heaven.
This book will comfort you and help you understand Gods love for you and how life without him is chaos. This is a great book for people who are into the New Age philosophies as his writings and background are from India, where those ideas originated. He was a friend of Ghandi. This book will build deep foundation in spiritual truths from the bible. Great for someone afraid to read the bible but needs a compass in life for direction to the source.

The politically corrected version

Abingdon Press is delighted to tell us in the Publisher's Preface that they have only made minor revisions. They go on to say, "The updates include spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and some language usage and references that would distract or confuse the reader." Then they go on to explain the sort of things they have had to change to prevent their stupid readers from being distracted or confused. "References to 'humanity', no longer as 'men' or 'mankind', have been updated. Some references to God have been recast to avoid masculine pronouns." So no referring to God as He. That's masculine. But surely Jesus refers to His Father 160 times in the New Testament? Isn't that masculine?

As usual, his mastery of the English language, and understanding of the Christ of The Way melt into one of the most readable, must challenging devotionals I've every picked up. E. Stanley Jones has become my friend over the years -- always challenging me to go a little further with my thinking, then go a little further with my life in Christ. You will not be disappointed -- challenged, but not disappointed.

It is a handbook!

My first time to read the handbook and I was not disappointed. Coming from a decidedly Democratic household growing up I slowly learned I was being lied to more and more by liberal forces. Actually what is left out is the most damaging. This book brings it home just how bad things have gotten with our media, education system and apparent mental illness of liberal thought. From the real beginning of the country, the civil rights movement, global warming, welfare and most importantly the uniqueness that is America. Too many things to mention and if you want to know the real story on the important topics of our time you need to read this book. I even think the binding is cool.
But this is not for the feint of heart. When I read the real mechanics of partial birth abortion I was first shocked that I did not know. Second I checked it out myself (yes, I even check Phil these days) and third tears came to my eyes and I almost cried. The violent murder of a viable, defenseless baby that just wants to live is the most despicable individual thing I have ever read. And it's legal. People need to be informed and this book is a big step in the right direction.
